RESUMEN

The recent revolution in the superconductivity field stems from hydride superconductors. Multicomponent hydrides provide a crucial platform for tracking high-temperature superconductors. Besides high superconducting transition temperature (Tc), achieving both giant upper critical magnetic field [µ0Hc2(0)] and high critical current density [Jc(0)] is also key to the latent potential of the application for hydride superconductors. In this work, we have successfully synthesized quaternary La-Y-Ce hydrides with excellent properties under moderate pressure by using the concept of "entropy engineering." The obtained temperature dependence of the resistance provides evidence for the superconductivity of Fm3m-(La,Y,Ce)H10, with the maximum Tc ∼ 190 K (at 112 GPa). Notably, Fm3m-(La,Y,Ce)H10 boasts exceptional properties: µ0Hc2(0) reaching 292 T and Jc(0) surpassing 4.61 × 107 A/cm2. Compared with the binary LaH10/YH10, we find that the Fm3m structure in (La,Y,Ce)H10 can be stable at relatively low pressures (112 GPa). These results indicate that multicomponent hydrides can significantly enhance the superconducting properties and regulate stabilizing pressure through the application of "entropy engineering." This work stimulates the experimental exploration of multihydride superconductors and also provides a reference for the search of room-temperature superconductors in more diversified hydride materials in the future.

RESUMEN

Objective: This study aims to explore the association between outdoor artificial light at night (ALAN) exposure and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods: This study is a retrospective case-control study. According with quantiles, ALAN has been classified into three categories (Q1-Q3). GDM was diagnosed through oral glucose tolerance tests. Conditional logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between ALAN exposure and GDM risk. The odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to assess the association. Restricted cubic spline analysis (RCS) was utilized to investigate the no liner association between ALAN and GDM. Results: A total of 5,720 participants were included, comprising 1,430 individuals with GDM and 4,290 matched controls. Pregnant women exposed to higher levels of ALAN during the first trimester exhibited an elevated risk of GDM compared to those with lower exposure levels (Q2 OR = 1.39, 95% CI 1.20-1.63, p < 0.001); (Q3 OR = 1.70, 95% CI 1.44-2.00, p < 0.001). Similarly, elevated ALAN exposure during the second trimester also conferred an increased risk of GDM (second trimester: Q2 OR = 1.70, 95% CI 1.45-1.98, p < 0.001; Q3 OR = 2.08, 95% CI 1.77-2.44, p < 0.001). RCS showed a nonlinear association between ALAN exposure and GDM risk in second trimester pregnancy, with a threshold value of 4.235. Conclusion: Outdoor ALAN exposure during pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of GDM.

RESUMEN

The experimentally discovered FeH5 exhibits a structure built of atomic hydrogen that only has bonding between hydrogen and iron atoms [C. M. Pepin, G. Geneste, A. Dewaele, M. Mezouar and P. Loubeyre, Science, 2017, 357, 382]. However, its superconductivity has remained unsolved since its discovery. In this work, we have synthesized I4/mmm-FeH5 at 139 GPa combined with laser-heating conditions. The electrical resistance measurements at ultrahigh pressures indicate that no evidence of superconducting transition of FeH5 is observed in the temperature range of 1.5 K to 270 K. These results indicate that I4/mmm-FeH5 does not exhibit superconductivity within the experimental temperature range, and the introduction of iron atoms is not beneficial to the formation of the superconducting phase.

RESUMEN

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Qing-Re-Chu-Shi Decoction (QRCSD), a traditional Chinese herbal formula, has been employed as a complementary and alternative therapy for inflammatory skin diseases. However, its active constituents and the mechanistic basis of its action on atopic dermatitis remain in adequately understood. AIM OF THE STUDY: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an allergic dermatitis marked by eczematous lesions and pruritus. The study aimed to elucidate the underlying effects of QRCSD on AD and to identify the components responsible for its therapeutic efficacy in a mouse model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Network pharmacology and UPLC-mass analysis were used to anticipate the pharmacological mechanisms and to identify active components of QRCSD, respectively. A DNCB-induced AD-like model was established in NC/Nga mice. QRCSD or prednisolone (as a positive control) was administered via gavage every other day from day14 to day 21. Dermatitis severity score, scratching behavior, skin barrier function, spleen index, Th1/Th2 lymphocyte ratio, and serum IgE levels were evaluated. Protein arrays, including 40 inflammatory cytokines, were performed on skin lesions, followed by confirmation experiments of Western blotting in dorsal skin lesions. RESULTS: The construction of a QRCSD-AD-Network and topological analysis firstly proposed potential targets of QRCSD acting on AD. Animal experiments demonstrated that oral administration of QRCSD ameliorated AD-like lesions, reduced epidermal thickness and mast cell count, decreased serum IgE levels, augmented tight junction protein (Claudin 1, Occludin) levels, and regulated the Th1/Th2 balance in the spleen, as well as spleen index. Elevated levels of interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-17, and Eotaxin were revealed in AD-like skin lesions by protein arrays. Western blotting confirmed that the phosphorylation levels of ERK, P38, JNK, STAT3 and P65 were downregulated, and IL-6 expression was also reduced following QRCSD treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The study enhances the understanding of the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects of QRCSD, showcasing its significant protective role against atopic dermatitis. Treatment with QRCSD may be considered as a viable candidate for complementary and alternative therapy in managing atopic dermatitis.

RESUMEN

Background: At present, acupuncture-related practices have been widely used to treat psoriasis. In our study, we investigated the effect and explored the mechanism of electroacupuncture (EA) on acupoints Baihui (DU20) and Xuehai (SP10) for the treatment of psoriasis. Methods: Imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like mouse model was used in this study. Mice were treated with electroacupuncture at DU20 and SP10 (depth of 2-3 mm, frequency of 2/15 Hz, intensity of 0.5-1.0 mA, 10 min/day). The severity of psoriasis-like lesions for each group was assessed. In addition, histological analysis of the lesions were performed. The levels of inflammatory cytokines were determined using Elisa. The expression levels of Substance P (SP) and NK1R were measured using Western blotting. In addition, NK1R inhibitor was administrated to evaluate the target of electroacupuncture in our mouse model. Results: Electroacupuncture significantly alleviated IMQ-induced skin lesions and epidermal thickness, accompanied with reduced keratinocyte proliferation, CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ T cells infiltration. The reduced levels of inflammatory cytokines was observed after electroacupuncture treatment. In addition, electroacupuncture inhibited the expression levels of SP and NK1R. NK1R inhibitor could ameliorate lesional symptoms and suppress epidermal thickening and CD3+, CD4+, and CD8 + T cell infiltration. Conclusions: Electroacupuncture relieved psoriasis-like inflammation and T cell infiltration. This therapeutic action was likely mediated by the modulation of Substance P and its receptor NK1R.

RESUMEN

As compressed hydrides constantly refresh the records of superconducting critical temperatures (Tc) in the vicinity of room temperature, this further reinforces the confidence to find more high-temperature superconducting hydrides. In this process, metastable phases of superhydrides offer enough possibilities to access superior superconducting properties. Here we report a metastable hexagonal lanthanum superhydride (P63/mmc-LaH10) stabilized at 146 GPa by introducing an appropriate proportion of Al, which exhibits high-temperature superconductivity with Tc ∼ 178 K, and this value is enhanced to a maximum Tc ∼ 223 K at 164 GPa. A huge upper critical magnetic field value Hc2(0) reaches 223 T at 146 GPa. The small volume expansion of P63/mmc-(La, Al) H10 compared with the binary LaH10 indicates the possible interstitial sites of Al atoms filling into the La-H lattice, instead of forming conventional ternary alloy-based superhydrides. This work provides a new strategy for metastable high-temperature superconductors through the multiple-element system.

RESUMEN

Background: Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has advantages in treating sequela symptoms of pediatric pneumonia convalescence. Hence, this study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CHM using a meta-analysis approach. Methods: The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that met the search strategy were selected from seven databases from the inception date to December 17, 2021. Based on the Cochrane handbook, the quality of the selected studies was assessed using the risk of bias. Data were expressed as relative risk (RR) or mean difference (MD) and with 95% confidence interval (CI). Subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were performed. The Grading Recommendation Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) method was used to assess the evidence certainty. Result: Twenty RCTs with 2,241 participants were identified using the search criteria. CHMs included Danshen injection, Liujunzi decoction, Qingfei Tongluo decoction, Yiqi Huoxue decoction, Yupingfeng granule, XiaoErFeiKe granule, Sha-Sheng-Mai-Dong decoction, and so on. Results indicated that CHM combined with Western medicine (WM) or CHM alone improved the total clinical effective rate (RR = 1.22; 95% CI: 1.15-1.29), reduced cough relief time (MD = -2.16; 95% CI: -2.46 to -1.85), lung rales disappearance time (MD = -1.82; 95% CI: -2.17 to -1.47), and length of hospital stay (MD = -2.01, 95% CI: -3.81 to -0.22) in the treatment of pneumonia convalescence in children. However, there was no significant statistical difference regarding the incidence of adverse reactions (RR = 0.57; 95% CI: 0.23-1.43). RESUMEN

Children are susceptible to pneumonia, which affects their growth and development. Immune disorders and unrepaired alveolar mucosal epithelium following pneumonia cause chronic lung injury. The mechanism of chronic lung injury is unknown and lacks animal models for reference. Therefore, we developed a chronic lung injury young mouse model to simulate the pathological process of children. 3-week-old mice were intratracheal instillation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) every other day for six weeks. Consequently, the histopathology showed damaged integrity of lung tissue, fibrosis, and abnormally distributed alveolar epithelial cells. The total protein concentration in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was increased, alveolar epithelial type (AT) I cells were abnormal distribution, and AT II cells were reduced. The phosphorylation levels of IKBα and the expression levels of NF-κB p65 in lung tissue were up-regulated. In serum and BALF, the IL-6 was oversecretion, nitric oxide (NO) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were perturbed secretion, oxidative stress imbalance. In addition, blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) indexes in hemorheology were increased. In conclusion, it is feasible to construct the mouse model of chronic lung injury, and AT I and AT Ⅱ cells were imbalanced, which paves the way for further investigations on the pathogenesis of chronic lung injury and the efficacy of novel treatments.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is a psychosomatic immune skin disease with psychological factors contributing to the disease. Substance P (SP) is highly expressed in the psoriatic lesions of patients and is involved in pathological disease progression. Tribulus terrestris L. has been used as a Chinese herbal medicine for disease prevention for thousands of years. Terrestrosin D (TED) has been identified as the effective monomeric component of Tribulus terrestris L.. PURPOSE: We investigated whether TED could reverse imiquimod-induced psoriatic lesions, and then, investigated its potential mechanism of action both in vivo and in vitro. METHODS: 5% imiquimod cream was applied onto the backs of mice for 6 days to induce psoriasis-like skin lesions. The psoriatic area and severity index (PASI) was then used for scoring disease severity. Pathological changes and Ki-67 expression levels in skin lesions were measured using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and immunofluorescence staining after TED administration. The in vivo and in vitro expression levels of inflammatory cytokines, the ratio of DCs, and SP were measured using ProcartaPlex Mouse Cytokine panels, flow cytometry, and western blotting. Behavioral assessments were determined using the open field and elevated plus-maze (EPM) test. RESULTS: TED decreased PASI scores, epidermal thickness, Ki-67 expression levels, the ratio of DCs in the spleen, and secretion of IL-12p70, IL-18, and TNF-α in imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like murine models. Furthermore, TED increased IL-10 secretion levels, improved behavior, and down-regulated the expression levels of SP. Additionally, TED inhibited the in vitro maturation and activation of SP-induced CD11c+ DCs and the release of IL-12p70 and IL-23. CONCLUSION: TED reduced DCs maturation, down-regulated the expression levels of inflammatory factors, and improved skin lesions and behavior of psoriasis-like murine models by inhibiting the interaction between Substance P and Dendritic cells.

RESUMEN

This work presents an effective approach for manganese-doped Al2O3 ceramic membrane (Mn-doped membrane) fouling control by in-situ confined H2O2 cleaning in wastewater treatment. An Mn-doped membrane with 0.7 atomic percent Mn doping in the membrane layer was used in a membrane bioreactor with the aim to improve the catalytic activity toward oxidation of foulants by H2O2. Backwashing with 1 mM H2O2 solution at a flux of 120 L/m2/h (LMH) for 1 min was determined to be the optimal mode for in-situ H2O2 cleaning, with confined H2O2 decomposition inside the membrane. The Mn-doped membrane with in-situ H2O2 cleaning demonstrated much better fouling mitigation efficiency than a pristine Al2O3 ceramic membrane (pristine membrane). With in-situ H2O2 cleaning, the transmembrane pressure increase (ΔTMP) of the Mn-doped membrane was 22.2 kPa after 24-h filtration, which was 40.5% lower than that of the pristine membrane (37.3 kPa). The enhanced fouling mitigation was attributed to Mn doping, in the Mn-doped membrane layer, that improved the membrane surface properties and confined the catalytic oxidation of foulants by H2O2 inside the membrane. Mn3+/Mn4+ redox couples in the Mn-doped membrane catalyzed H2O2 decomposition continuously to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) (i.e., HO• and O21), which were likely to be confined in membrane pores and efficiently degraded organic foulants.

RESUMEN

Psoriasis is not only a chronic inflammatory skin disease but also a psychosomatic disorder. Depression is one of the most common associated diseases, which aggravates psoriatic skin lesions and affects the life quality of patients. Clinical experiments establish a correlation between psoriasis and depression; however, the mechanisms yet unclear because only a few related studies are available. Therefore, to investigate whether imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like mice showed depressive-like behavior, 5% imiquimod cream was smeared on the back of mice to induce psoriasis-like skin lesions for 8 days. Consequently, the psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) score, epidermal thickness, expression of Ki67 and CD3+ T lymphocyte, the content of IL-12p70, IL-17A, and IL-23 in skin lesions were increased. The psoriasis-like mice presented significant changes in body mass. The sugar water preference rate, the central area distance and area time, and the content of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylaceticacid (DOPAC) and noradrenaline (NE) in the prefrontal cortex, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), adrenaline (Ad), and DOPAC in the hippocampus, and Ad and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the hypothalamus of psoriasis-like mice were significantly decreased. The results showed that after the application of imiquimod, depressive-like behaviors appeared in psoriasis-like mice, and the secretion of related neurotransmitters was disordered. Thus, these mice could be used as animal models for studying psoriasis complicated with depression symptoms.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: The incidence of psoriasis vulgaris is increasing worldwide. Chronic recurrence of the disease, as well as accompanying cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and depression has affected the physical and mental health of these patients. Psoriasis vulgaris is a difficult and major disease in the dermatology field. Short-term curative effects using conventional therapy for psoriasis vulgaris has made major strides. However, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment has long-term curative advantages for psoriasis vulgaris but lacks the scientific and clinical evidence for its use. This study intends to demonstrate and provide scientific and clinical evidence for the use of TCM to delay the recurrence of psoriasis vulgaris. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This will be a prospective, multicenter cohort study. We intend to recruit 1521 psoriasis vulgaris patients from 14 hospitals in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. Treatment will be based on the diagnosis specifications and clinical practice guidelines of TCM and conventional therapy. During inclusion and the subsequent follow-up period, doctors through electronic case reports will collect different therapeutic TCM regimens and conventional therapy that were administered. Information on life condition, skin lesions at each visit, World Health Organization Quality of Life Instruments, Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale, Zung Self-assessment of Depression, laboratory examinations, incidence of new rash and recurrence during the remission and recurrence stages will be recorded. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The clinical trial protocol for this study was approved by the ethics committee of the Beijing hospital of TCM affiliated to capital medical university (Ethics number: 2019BL02-010-02). We will publish and present our results at national and international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals specialized in dermatology. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This protocol has been registered in clinicaltrials. gov (ChiCTR1900021629).

RESUMEN

Psoriasis is a common, chronic multifactorial inflammatory skin disease with both genetic and environmental components. A number of studies have suggested that psoriasis episodes are often preceded by stressful life events. Nevertheless, the underline mechanisms of stress in psoriasis remain unexplored. To address this question, we established an emotional stress mouse model induced by empty bottle stimulation, and applied imiquimod (IMQ), a ligand of TLR7/8 and effective potent immune activator, on the dorsal skin to induce psoriasis-like lesions. We found that empty bottles induced emotional stress exaggerated and prolonged psoriasiform dermatitis, which appeared as more prominent epidermal hyperplasia in the emotional stress mice compared with the control mice. Higher mRNA expression of Il-1ß, Il-17a, and Il-22, as well as higher secretion of IL-1ß, IL-12p40, IL-17, and IL-22 were observed in the skin lesion of emotional stress mice. The emotional stress condition and IMQ treatment synergistically led to higher expression levels of neurotransmitters and their receptors in the skin, especially substance P (SP), we also found that SP could stimulate DCs to secrete more IL-23p40 in vitro. In addition, NK-1R antagonist partially abrogated enhanced epidermal thickness and the level of neurotransmitters in emotional stress mice. Taken together, these results indicate that stress exacerbates and prolongs psoriasiform dermatitis in mice by up-regulating IL-1ß and IL-23p40, which were related to local DCs stimulated by abnormal SP.

RESUMEN

Psoriasis is a common autoimmune disease. Acupuncture-related techniques have been widely used to treat psoriasis since its ability to engage neuronal function, the immune system, and other systems is well documented. This study aimed to investigate and compare the effects of three common acupuncture-related techniques in psoriasis-like skin inflammatory responses and explore the possible involved mechanisms. Imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis-like mice were treated with acupuncture needling, electroacupuncture, or fire acupuncture. Methotrexate (MTX) was applied as a positive control. Scoring by the psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) evaluated skin lesion changes. Keratinocyte proliferation and inflammatory cell infiltration were investigated using pathological staining. The secretion levels of inflammatory cytokines were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The expression levels of neuropeptides were assessed by Western immunoblotting. We found that acupuncture needling, electroacupuncture, and fire acupuncture all ameliorated skin lesions, reduced epidermal thickness, inhibited keratinocyte proliferation, and reduced CD3+ T cell infiltration. The aforementioned acupuncture techniques also decreased inflammatory cytokine secretion, including IL-1ß, IL-17A, and IL-23p40. Among them, electroacupuncture showed the best curative effects. Additionally, electroacupuncture downregulated the expression levels of Neurokinin A (NKA), which was positively associated with decreased inflammatory cytokine levels in local lesions. In conclusion, acupuncture needling, electroacupuncture, and fire acupuncture alleviated IMQ-induced psoriasis-like lesions. By contrast, electroacupuncture was more beneficial in reducing the inflammatory response, which might be related to locally dampened neuropeptide levels. Observations support the therapeutic effect of acupuncture for psoriasis and indicate a neuromodulatory mechanism in treating psoriasis by electroacupuncture.

RESUMEN

Two hybrid processes including ozonation-ceramic membrane-biological activated carbon (BAC) (Process A) and ceramic membrane-BAC (Process B) were compared to treat polluted raw water. The performance of hybrid processes was evaluated with the removal efficiencies of turbidity, ammonia and organic matter. The results indicated that more than 99% of particle count was removed by both hybrid processes and ozonation had no significant effect on its removal. BAC filtration greatly improved the removal of ammonia. Increasing the dissolved oxygen to 30.0 mg/L could lead to a removal of ammonia with concentrations as high as 7.80 mg/L and 8.69 mg/L for Processes A and B, respectively. The average removal efficiencies of total organic carbon and ultraviolet absorbance at 254 nm (UV254, a parameter indicating organic matter with aromatic structure) were 49% and 52% for Process A, 51% and 48% for Process B, respectively. Some organic matter was oxidized by ozone and this resulted in reduced membrane fouling and increased membrane flux by 25%-30%. However, pre-ozonation altered the components of the raw water and affected the microorganisms in the BAC, which may impact the removals of organic matter and nitrite negatively.

RESUMEN

This article presents a highly integrated hybrid process for the advanced treatment of drinking water in dealing with the micro-polluted raw water. A flat sheet ceramic membrane with the pore size of 50∼60 nm for ultrafiltration (UF) is used to integrate coagulation and ozonation together. At the same time, biological activated carbon filtration (BAC) is used to remove the ammonia and organic pollutants in raw water. A pilot study in the scale of 120 m(3)/d has been conducted in Southern China. The mainly-analyzed parameters include turbidity, particle counts, ammonia, total organic carbon (TOC), UV254, biological dissolved organic carbon (BDOC), dissolved oxygen (DO) as well as trans-membrane pressure (TMP). The experiments demonstrated that ceramic UF-membrane was able to remove most of turbidity and suspended particulate matters. The final effluent turbidity reached to 0.14 NTU on average. BAC was effective in removing ammonia and organic matters. Dissolved oxygen (DO) is necessary for the biodegradation of ammonia at high concentration. The removal efficiencies reached to 90% for ammonia with the initial concentration of 3.6 mg/L and 76% for TOC with the initial concentration of 3.8 mg/L. Ozonation can alter the molecular structure of organics in terms of UV254, reduce membrane fouling, and extend the operation circle. It is believed the hybrid treatment process developed in this article can achieve high performance with less land occupation and lower cost compared with the conventional processes. It is especially suitable for the developing countries in order to obtain high-quality drinking water in a cost-effective way.

RESUMEN

The effect of biosidal treatment of initial sediment, addition of inhibitor and addition of phosphorus on the transform of nitrogen and phosphorus in the sediment-water simulative system were studied. S. quadricaudain was cultured in overlying waters took from the above experiment sets when the above experiment completed. The result indicated that, biosidal treatment enhanced the concentration of TP while there was no obvious effect on N. The TP, DTP and TN concentrations were closely between inhibitor addition set and the control set in the sediment-water simulative system but the content of NO3(-)-N of the set with inhibitor addition reached 19.2 mg x L(-1), which was much higher than that of the control set. The sediment significantly adsorbed the P added to the system, and the content of TP decreased when the system reached balance. Algae biomass of the biosidal treatment set was higher than that of the control set, and the main cause was sterilizer leaded to higher concentration of TP of the biosidal treatment set. The highest Algae biomass of the group with inhibitor (224.5 x 10(4) unit x L(-1)) was much higher than that of the control set (26 x 10(4) unit x L(-1)), and that was 5-10 times than that of other sets (sterilized set 22.5 x 10(4) unit x L(-1), set with P added 38.5 x 10(4) uni x L(-1)). Inhibitor restrained the microorganism from using some nutrition which was important to alga's growth. At the beginning, the addition of P had no remarkable effect on the alga growth, but along with the experiment, the alga of the P addition set adapted to the environment and algae biomass exceed that of the control set. The increase of biological bioavailable phosphorus of sediment in biosidal treatment set and addition of inhibitor sets were caused by the increase of algae biomass and thus the increase of liable organic phosphorus.
